Because each week we look at apps released about two weeks ago, this week we're looking at apps (non-games) released over the July 4th holiday week and there weren't too many of them. But the two apps that meet our top apps list criteria are both high scorers with 95 AppScores. Goodnight ABC is great for kids as it makes learning ABC and Phonics feel like playing an exciting game. Audio Xciter Studio, an app that brings out the original audio quality through advanced digital signal processing, will make your music, podcasts or audio books sing. Learn more about these two apps below, let us know your thoughts in the comments and we'll be back with 5 apps next week.

As always our iPhone and iPad app rankings are based on aggregating professional review scores from around the web.

T1.
Goodnight ABC
Goodnight ABC 95
$1.99: iPad

Goodnight ABC is filled with colorful original art, sound effects, animals, whimsical objects, and tons of interactive features and animation on every page. The app teaches letters and letter sounds, while also providing your child with hundreds of new vocabulary words, knowledge of numbers, colors, the basics of nature, animal world, technology, and a lot more. Check out a quote from Crazy Mike's Apps: "I found this book to be an awesome and engaging experience. The overall design was fantastic and the navigation was designed to prevent kids from exiting the iPad app and going onto the web. All navigation that leads out of the app has a prompt to verify the action. I loved the quality, variety and the amount of things to do in this iPad Education app, which are subtly provided and not presented in an overwhelming way" (July 25, 2012).

Audio Xciter Studio
Audio Xciter Studio 95
$7.99 (Sale): iPhone and iPod Touch

Audio Xciter makes all your music, podcasts and audio books sound dramatically better, with richness, clarity and spaciousness that's typically lost in digital files. The app features a digital signal processor that brings out the details in your music lost in compression. It allows you to access three professionally tuned presets to adjust the processing settings to your liking or upgrade to the Studio version for full control for a truly custom experience. The app also offers familiar interface to access your local audio files, instant access to your library (no scanning delay), enhanced playback through any audio output and full AirPlay support. Check out a quote from AppAdvice: "The magic for audiophiles will be the ability to customize the enhanced audio to what you want. There are Low, Medium, and High settings, with each working better for different situations. These audio settings are not changeable, though you can go the Custom route and adjust the sliders to what you want. If you do this, you can instantly hear the difference as you modify it" (July 10, 2012).

Notes: Top 5 is based on apps released two weeks prior, 7/1/12-7/7/12, to the current week to allow for reviews to come in. AppScores, prices, ranking, and availability are accurate as of 7/25/12. To make the list an AppScore of 75 or above is needed and the primary app category cannot be "Games".
