Sorry for being delayed this past week with our Best iPhone and iPad Apps for Kids series - unfortunately a little cold got the better of me. But I'm feeling good and back on track and bringing you a new and great app for kids. One of the first songs or things a kid learns are the ABCs. Learning the ABCs are like a rite of passage for every child. This week's Best iPhone and iPad Apps for Kids with a 95 AppScore is Animalia Animalia for iPad - an interactive ebook that teaches children the ABCs through elaborate illustrations of animals. The app is based on a 25 year old book written by Graeme Base, an author that has written twelve books and according to the app description, his books have sold more than 5 millions copies around the world. In the app, Graeme speaks to kids and takes them on a journey through the illustrations and there are even games where you must find Graeme in the images. There are also two others games in Animalia Animalia for iPad that little ones can play including a mystery shape game and mystery word game that brings a butterfly to life - once they discover the mystery shape and word they can then go find these object/butterfly in the illustrations as well. It seems these games can entertain your kids for a while, maybe also giving parents a little peace and quiet. Check out this app and as always let us know your thoughts.

As always our iPhone and iPad game rankings are objective and based on aggregating independent professional review scores from around the web.

$3.99: iPad

From the app description: Animalia features: a read-through of the alliterations by the author, with different animations on every page, the ability to zoom in and find over 150 items scattered through the artwork - learn their names and hear what they sound like and multiple games. Check out a quote from Digital Storytime: "Each page of the lavish artwork from the original book is available for exploration, including the ability to use two fingers to enlarge the pages for closer examination. This is a beautiful game, based on a beautiful book. It's still not a substitute for the extra large print version, but it is a wonderful digital translation. Highly Recommended" (April 18, 2012). Also, see what AppAdvice has to say: "Animalia has been a great hardback book for the last twenty years, and is even better in its new digital form. Now the same great book has even more deluxe images to truly see the finite detail, and there are brand new touch based interactive features. This app really shows how the iPad can reinvent and provide brand new interest in a classic book" (September 15, 2010).
