Description

90 Dark Sky can tell you at a glance exactly when it will rain (or snow) up to an hour in advance, so you’re free to walk the dog or play another set of tennis and know you’ll stay dry. You can also explore the most beautiful weather animation you’ve ever seen, both forward in time or back.

YOUR WEATHER, DOWN TO THE MINUTE
Using GPS, Dark Sky is able to create forecasts for your precise location. And because Dark Sky focuses on the next hour, we are able to give you minute-to-minute predictions.

STUNNING RADAR ANIMATIONS
The same technology that powers Dark Sky’s predictions also allows us to make the world’s first perfectly smooth radar animation. Other apps show you a chunky slideshow that makes it nearly impossible to tell how storms are moving. But Dark Sky’s beautiful radar animation lets you see the actual path of the storm: how it moved in the past, and where it’s going in the future.

PUSH NOTIFICATIONS
Dark Sky can send you an alert before it starts raining at your exact location. Even if you haven't opened the app in days, Dark Sky will know when you're in the path of a storm.

NOTE: Dark Sky currently supports the United States, including Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico and the UK, Ireland, and surrounding areas.

Over several weeks of use, I can say I am very pleased with the app. It does a much better job of giving me information on the storms around me than the other weather apps on my iPhone. I also love the radar images and the animation of the storm data. If it is not raining near you, Dark Sky will offer up a link to a location where it is raining and you can observe someone else's storm. Date: July 21, 2012

This app is great. Were it free or $0.99, I couldn’t see anyone going without it. But at a $5.99 price tag, compared to all of the free and $1 weather apps, it’s going to be tough to justify spending $6 on a weather app. Since it’s universal, it feels a little more like spending $3 for each device. Buying Dark Sky will depend on whether or not a user believes it’s worth $6 for the beautiful interface, speed, and easy-of-use. Date: April 20, 2012

Dark Sky focuses on keeping you dry and keeping you informed about rainy conditions so you can be better prepared to go about your day. The usefulness of the app will depend on your location. I see it being irreplaceable in the northwest where rainy conditions are a common occurrence. Date: September 14, 2012

Dark Sky is a niche app that does one thing very well. It wont give you the weekly forecast, or the dew point, but it does an excellent job of providing local up to the minute temperature and precipitation. This one has definitely found a place next to the regular weather app. Date: September 18, 2012

Dark Sky is quite a niche weather app, since it won’t give you a daily forecast, and it’s quite useless if you live in a place where it never rains. I’d also be careful if you want to use Dark Sky in somewhere such as Seattle, because I hear that Seattle rain can be quite fickle, and perhaps Dark Sky can’t always be accurate (it’s only a predictor, after all). If you do live in a place where rain is not a surprise, then make sure to give Dark Sky a try on your iPhone or iPad. You never know — it may really help you out in the long run Date: April 29, 2012
