To conclude, Toca Band is a wonderful app if you want your kid to be in touch with music, not to leave out that it is equally entertaining to the parent as well. Date: March 22, 2013

There’s an awful lot to like about Toca Band. The wonderment and joy evoked when kids and adults alike encounter the possibilities of the app for the first time is truly something to behold. And when that glow has worn off there’s still plenty of band combinations to try out and soloist capabilities to explore. But sooner or later, the repetition of that tune is going to get you. And if it gets to you before it does the children well, the portability of your iDevice will come in handy as you dispatch them into a different room. Date: September 21, 2012

If you can get past the annoyance of Toca Band’s infinitely repeated, too-brief melody, there are two other issues with the app: It doesn’t require nearly the level of creativity that its other apps do, for one. Outside of tapping away to play an instrument’s limited repertoire of in-key notes, there’s not much for kids to do beyond drag and drop bandmates around. And the second flaw is one that’s common to Toca Boca apps: It doesn’t resume automatically. So if Junior accidentally taps the Home button, his carefully-assembled band is gone, at least for the 30 seconds it takes him to recreate the group after relaunching the app. Date: September 20, 2012
