DM1 offers 5 main sections:
1 - THE STEP SEQUENCER frees your imagination with a smart use of the multi-touch screen. Just turn on and off steps in your sequence with the tip of your fingers to create cool beats, or unexpected rhythms!
2 - THE DRUM PADS simply lets you play and record the beat that tickles your fingers. No need to be a first-class drummer, automatic quantize does the work for you.
3 - THE MIXER for quick and subtle sound mixing of your drum kits. Featuring settings for volume, pitch, sample length, custom drum kit element for each channel, mute and solo mode.
4 - THE FX TRACKPADS a creative duo of FX trackpads to distort, modulate and transform your beats. The effects include: Overdrive, Reverb, Delay, Phaser, Formant, Texturizer, Robotizer, Filter, Dalek filter and Compressor.
5 - THE SONG COMPOSER allows you to quickly make a song with the beat patterns you have created. Just drag and drop the patterns onto the timeline. Fast and easy.

There’s a lot going in here, for a laughable small amount of money. All in all, an excellent beatmaking app. Date: May 15, 2012

I’ve always enjoyed playing around with drum machines and this one is a lot of fun. It makes very good use of the iPad screen and touch interface and is one of the most immediately accessible and easy to use music apps I have seen. Unless you go in expecting way too much, it will be a long time before you start thinking of things that would be nice to have in DM1, as it already pretty much has everything most people would expect or want from a drum machine app. The visuals don’t even have to be this good, but they are and they make using the DM1 an even more satisfying and enjoyable experience. The DM1 is not the only drum machine available, and at $4.99 it’s probably not the cheapest either. It misses out on a few features like the ability to record samples yourself and heavy manipulation of the drum sounds that you’ll find in apps like the Korg iElectribe. If a simple way could be found to incorporate these features the app would be the better for it. The DM1 drum machine manages to strike the balance of simplistic elegance whilst packing a feature-rich punch. Whilst the sound quality may not compare to that of a professional unit, the range of sounds and functionality available makes your money well spent. Date: April 19, 2012
