I’ve been playing the game for about a week now, and I have got to say — this is my favorite game so far in 2012. I literally played the game for hours since I first downloaded it (and found it very hard to put down), and I find myself picking up my iPhone and going back to it whenever I have a minute. The game starts out slow, but it will quickly pick up and become chaotic. Date: April 25, 2012

I honestly don’t know where to start with the positives. There are 60 levels and an endless mode which offers a huge amount of gameplay. I just love the retro style graphics and music which provide an amazing theme for the game. The controls also match this theme and work extremely well. The game has a great story as each level itself feels different, unique and creative. Date: April 26, 2012

Spellsword is beautiful, frantic, addictive, satisfying, explosive and, oh my goodness I think I've run out of superlatives. A spiritual successor to Super Crate Box it may well be, but only in its most fundamental concepts. When we all start thinking about our Game of the Year this December, I can only hope to have enjoyed some serious competition to this extraordinary title. Buy it. Date: April 26, 2012

Some might be quick to call games like Spellsword a copycat, but when a game improves on its inspiration in just about every way imaginable like Spellsword does, it’s hard to justify such labels. While Super Crate Box may have invented the formula, Spellsword elevates it to the next level. Fans of SCB, consider yourself warned – you have your new addiction. Date: April 29, 2012

The game isn’t necessarily as pure in gameplay as Super Crate Box was, but that may just be a tradeoff when a game has an external progression mechanic like the RPG elements in this one. Still, this game gets a lot right. The RPG elements are light enough that they aren’t overwhelming, yet compelling enough to be engaging. It’s a definite must-play for fans of action-RPGs, and for those looking for a twist on the Super Crate Box formula. Date: April 26, 2012

With some elbow grease and a good once over, Spellsword could easily earn a permanent spot on my iPhone. It's really that good. And Everplay Interactive seems dedicated to hitting those heights, if the developer's comments in our discussion thread are anything to go by. I don't see how you could possibly go wrong here. This a game that's fun, full-featured and ridiculously cheap, with a developer that's working hard to keep fixes and content coming. Looks like a winner from here. Date: April 30, 2012

Overall this is a great game with fast paced gameplay that is extremely addicting. And yes I know addicting is one of those buzz words that you shouldn't use in a review as it can cheapen it, but this game truly deserves that title. Splendid graphics and music along with overall good design makes this a must have. Date: April 30, 2012

Spellsword has a lot of content, thanks to endless mode after you’ve finished all the missions. Even when you’re playing it for the hundredth time, it’s a lot of fun, so I’d definitely recommend picking this game up. Date: May 17, 2012

If you enjoyed Super Crate Box, there is no doubt that you will enjoy Spellsword. The RPG elements really add to the already fun hack-n-slash gameplay. Spellsword is also inexpensive and being a universal app only helps its stock. If you’ve got $0.99 cents lying around, don’t hesitate on picking up this spectaular arena game. Date: May 03, 2012

As far as arena fighting games go, Spellsword is enticing and will draw you in with its easy upgrades and unlocks. If you need a game to play while cooling off from your last 2 hour Super Crate Box session I would suggest your give Spellsword a spin. Date: May 14, 2012

Spellsword has a vibe similar to Hook Champ, with appealing retro graphics, catchy chiptunes, and silly one-liners before each mission. The gameplay is appealingly chaotic and intense. It's probably not a game your mom will enjoy, but if your'e into grinding and powering up your character, don't be surprised if you lose yourself in it for a few hours. We certainly did. Tough in most of the right places, Spellsword might miss a few tricks, but it's core gameplay is solid enough to keep you playing regardless. Date: April 27, 2012
