But overall Sonic Jump offers a ton of fun, and a million reasons to keep coming back. We haven't seen a game bring this much creativity to a seemingly dead genre in a long time. Whether you grew up with Sonic or not, Sonic Jump is a total blast. Date: October 19, 2012

Sonic Jump is by far the best jumper game for the iPhone and iPad and by the looks of it they will be adding gameplay to this to continue the Sonic Jumper story. This is cool because they have all sorts of themes from previous Sonic titles to pull ideas from while mixing them with this new Sonic title. Date: October 19, 2012

Sonic Jump’s graphics are in a class all by themselves! Holy smokes, they are eye popping! The screen shots I’ve shown give you a tiny taste of what you’re in for! This game couldn’t possibly disappoint anybody! It has it all, new and challenging gameplay, original animation, bold colors and perfect graphics – all mixed into a brand new jumping game! The thing about game franchises such as Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda and Mega Man is that they may churn out a mediocre title every now and then, but overall, the series are still pretty good. Sonic the Hedgehog is a member of that elite club and Sonic Jump manages to be a worthy addition to his catalog. Despite being a rehash of an older game, this Sonic adventure has a crisp feel and looks great. It’s also features Sonic’s abilities in a way that’s different from his other games, but in a natural progression that won’t alienate fans. Sonic Jump is challenging and an enjoyable deviation of the Sonic franchise that fans — both casual and die-hard — will love. Date: November 02, 2012

It isn't the most original entry in the Sonic canon, but Sonic Jump is a great little mobile game all the same. Date: October 18, 2012

Those expecting a game with the same loop-de-loops to run and bonus stages to dominate might be a little disappointed with Sonic Jump, a perfectly capable – but very, very familiar – vertical platformer clearly engineered to please the crowd of casual Sonic fans, and help usher in a new generation of followers. A good game, but one that would’ve benefited from a little more creativity in its design. Date: October 18, 2012

Sonic Jump is a brilliant idea executed exceptionally well to take the familiar game style, and flesh it out considerably. Sonic Jump is a should buy that provides both levels and endless for a thoroughly entertaining jump fest. Date: October 18, 2012

Graphically, Sonic Jump has an advantage over other Jump games, it looks great and it's the typical brightly coloured, blue skied and full of details affair that you'd expect from Sega. Sonic's neat motion blur is one of the little features to watch out for, but it's the highly detailed backgrounds that are deliberately faded to avoid any danger of muddying the game environment that make it look really special. I admit to being sceptical about a jumping game featuring Sonic, but aside from the odd annoying level in the story mode and a feeling that Sonic really shouldn't be travelling upwards, something I don't think I'll ever get used to, Sonic Jump is an enjoyable little gem that took me by surprise. As I said before, there’s nothing wrong with this game. It has good controls, solid gameplay, and it offers a sufficient challenge. Unfortunately, it’s a game that we’ve all played before in other incarnations, and Sonic Jump doesn’t add enough unique content to be different. If you’re a fan of both Sonic games and jumping style games I’d recommend this one, but otherwise, save your pennies for something original. Date: October 18, 2012

With challenging levels in story mode, an even harder arcade mode and promise of a new zone soon Sonic Jump is a true contender to Doodle Jump for the crown. The addition of Jetpack Joyride like missions to complete makes it even harder to put down. I am truly surprised, and actually really glad that Sega has made Sonic Jump a proper standalone game well worth it for both fans, and non-fans of Sonic the Hedgehog. Date: October 20, 2012

Despite reducing Sonic to only jumping, Sonic Jump does almost a better job at feeling like the hedgehog in its hey-day than other iOS releases; if only it didn't bring along the same baggage of similar vertical jumpers too. Date: October 22, 2012

Given how incredibly successful Doodle Jump is -- and how many clones of the game exist -- a little trepidation about Sonic Jump is understandable. But once you start playing the game, you realize that the developers took the best parts of that game and blended them with the best parts of the Sonic franchise. Date: October 19, 2012

If you passed on Sonic Jump thinking it’s a simple Doodle Jump clone, you owe it to yourself to give the game another look. Its emphasis on In-App Purchases and somewhat bland design are disappointing, but they don’t detract from the pure jumping fun. I enjoyed skillfully tilting my way through each set of devious deathtraps. Date: October 29, 2012

Sonic Jump isn’t a bad game, but the emphasis on IAPs (and the game’s constant pop-ups encouraging you to use consumable power-ups) doesn’t do anything to make it feel like the best game ever. Graphically, it’s very nice. Although I don’t like using tilt controls on my iPad, the controls do work and all I can criticise is the lack of a touch control option. Levels are challenging and the first boss fight (I’ve only seen the first one) is fun and also quite easy. Date: November 16, 2012

There's a lot that's safe and familiar about Sonic Jump, but if I had a penny for every game on the App Store I could point at and say, "Now that's a bit conservative" then I wouldn't be writing about them now. It's a fair addition to the Sonic universe, the kids will love it, and you may find that you yourself play it for far longer than you might expect. Date: October 19, 2012

Old school fans of Sonic tend to want two things: speed and challenge. Sonic Jump delivers both, but just a little too late in the game. It’s not that you’ll have to play for half an hour to get to that point – but mobile gamers are an impulsive bunch, and they tend to know whether or not they like something in the first three minutes. If you can push through the first world, there’s a lot to love about Sonic Jump. And besides, even though you don’t want to admit it, we know there’s a little Doodle Jump love left somewhere in your heart, isn’t there? Date: October 18, 2012

There’s so much potential even in the ill-fitting endless jumper concept that goes unrealized. And that’s the game’s biggest sin, is that it feels like a lost opportunity. Of all the ways to do an endless Sonic game, this is it? Really? Pretty much the only lesson that should be taken from it is that it at least has consumable powerups that are cheap enough to buy with collected rings that they actually can become an integral part of gameplay, not just a plaything for the rich. Beyond that, this is a disappointingly pedestrian game. Date: October 18, 2012

The bottom line. It's possible to successfully blend Doodle Jump and nostalgic heroes, but Sonic Jump doesn't quite find the necessary balance to pull it off. Date: October 18, 2012
