Immerse yourself in the world of Agent Lara, a defense system special agent, that finds herself between a massive world power and the sympathies of a rebel cause. Help her down the path of death defying obstacles to find the truth behind her past, present and future.

If you’re a fan of runners, or auto-running platformers, and yes, there is plenty of platforming that can be found in Polara, this is definitely a game you need to pick up. Even if you aren’t a fan of, or use to be a fan of runners, Polara has the potential to make you a fan, or bring you back to the genre. The color changing mechanic and way that it’s used (not feeling like just a gimmick in any sense) adds a ton to the otherwise over saturated genre. Date: October 11, 2012

I am a fan of free runner and endless runner games, and Polara definitely has what you need. Amazing visuals, captivating soundtrack, engaging and challenging gameplay, plenty of modes — it’s all here. If you’re a fan of the genre, then make sure to give Polara a try. Date: October 11, 2012

With Polara, players are also arguably getting two games in one. After completing each stage, a separate goal emerges: the collection of the titular letters and a special medallion. The position of each letter cleverly rewires the way players are required to jump, switch colors, and evaluate timing. Meanwhile, perfectionists will be enticed by the pursuit of “flawless,” no-death runs. All told, Hope This Works shows that ingenuity in design trumps superfluous achievements every time. And with the whole package going for under a dollar, this is a rebellion to get behind. Date: October 11, 2012

Polara takes a good hard look at the flood of games released in the wake of Jetpack Joyride and Temple Run, and sees them for the lazy cash-ins they invariably are. There's not an upgrade in sight and no in-app cash store, just an honest dollar for an honest game. Better still, you'll be playing Polara long after the freemium me-too runners have had their moment in the spotlight. Buy it today. Date: October 17, 2012

There are plenty of reasons to recommend Polara, but the one that takes it past the tipping point is the sheer volume of quality content. One trip through its levels takes a few hours. The second trip through is even more satisfying. And on top of all that, there are six endless modes to play with to your heart's content. It's almost unreasonable that a game should offer this much for this little. In a time when consumable IAP is king, Polara stands out for its stand-alone offering. If you find yourself asking for more games that are sold complete, then this is most definitely one that deserves—or requires—your love. Date: October 17, 2012

There’s no doubting the quality of Polara’s game play, combined with plenty of extra content that will keep you paling long after Lara’s initial quest comes to an end. It’s far more a puzzle game experience than it is a runner, which makes for a refreshing change of pace. The only real drawback is the musical score which, while entertaining at first, becomes repetitive rather quickly with each level that passes. That aside, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t pick up and play Polara. Date: January 29, 2013

Polara is a unique twist on the auto-runner, and is packed with clever ideas and bonus content. It's just a shame that the difficulty has been defanged. Date: October 11, 2012

The problem Polara faces is that it tries to be more than it is. It wants to have an amazing story, a narrative that will engage and a world that feels immersive. It just doesn't do those parts well. The gameplay elements are really solid. The on-the-fly puzzle feeling is well thought-out, levels are put together perfectly, and the game manages action and strategy well. It's just not a story-telling game and, because it takes itself too seriously, it suffers in places. The game is worth playing, but it needs to lighten up a little. Date: October 11, 2012

Polara is definitely not a game for the impatient: the death count at the end of each level is a constant reminder of the game’s unforgiving design. But it doesn’t go out of its way to be cruel or unfair, it’s simply more challenging than the many, many casual options available in the App Store. With a fun gameplay twist and smooth, consistent platforming action, Polara is definitely worth a look for gamers looking for some side-scrolling action. Date: October 12, 2012

Polara is executed almost perfectly. There are some issues with the game feeling flat and dull thanks to repetitive environments, but it's a small price to pay for a runner that understands that running and jumping should be fun and not a boring chore. Date: October 15, 2012

Polara is a unique – and easy to control – blend of endless runner style gameplay mixed with the polarity shifting concept that made Ikaruga so famous, providing a new experience for iOS owners. The game – completely devoid of IAPs – is rather generous by giving player infinite lives and frequent checkpoints, which will be needed since the game gets to be rather difficult very quickly (perhaps a little too difficult for the more easily frustrated out there). For those who are looking for even more difficulty – and replay value – there are additional optional objectives on all 50 of the game’s story mode missions when they are replayed, as well as a bevy of unlockable challenge modes that come complete with online leaderboards. Polara is a fresh entry in the endless runner genre featuring a quick, and clever colour-shifting mechanic. Slow to start, but once you get to harder levels the game becomes hard to put away. At that point the lack of graphical flair doesn’t matter, and I can only do one thing: keep running. And yes, die. Date: October 12, 2012
