“It’s the first game that’s made my iPhone’s first home screen in years.” —Daring Fireball

“Letterpress in itself is something of a serious accomplishment. The creation of a balanced game with rules, regulations, and goals doesn't happen everyday. Like with Tweetie, Letterpress mines an idea to its basest elements and presents them without visual clutter.” —The Verge

“Letterpress is a painfully addictive word game, earning its place on my home screen and sure to win the hearts of people in bathrooms everywhere.” —iMore

I personally upgraded Letterpress to the full version within a minute or so of playing. I instantly fell in love with the game and also wanted all of the themes, which are refreshing to switch to for a change. The graphics are beautiful, typography is stunning, and everything just works. I’m not surprised that Brichter also made Game Center a bit more useful with this game. If you love word games, or just delightful apps from some of the best talent there is, then look no further than Letterpress – Word Game. This game is of exceptional quality and incredibly addictive with a stimulating new concept. Date: October 24, 2012

We're a little disappointed that there's no single-player mode, and that you can only play when you're connected to the Internet. But if you're a fan of word games, there's no reason not to download Letterpress. It's a beautiful, simple, elegant game, with enough strategy to keep it interesting for a long time. The best part of Letterpress is its ease of entry. It is free to play, but for a $.99 in app purchase, you can play more than two games at a time and see all the previously used words. This game is going to a contender for game of the year, so don’t miss it. Date: December 14, 2012

When I said that Letterpress did one thing and did it extremely well, I meant it. It's a fantastic asynchronous online word game and nothing more. It's also a fantastic example of how design can enhance the experience of playing a game, as Letterpress is a joy to look at and to use. Date: October 24, 2012

My few quibbles are minor. The truth is, none of my suggestions would impact how fun Letterpress is, which is to say: very. Fans of word games won’t be disappointed. If you’re starting to tire of Words With Friends, or just want additional word-focused fun, Letterpress deserves your attention. Date: October 24, 2012

For $0.99, players can unlock the ability to play more than two games at once and to use different color themes and see their past words during a game. I’d recommend it purely to support such a great game, if nothing else, but such features are quite handy. A past word list proves particularly useful, given that words can’t be reused during a match. Letterpress might not be perfect but it is a heck of a lot of fun. Date: October 26, 2012

What I liked: This game has a fantastic design and it’s entirely fluid. It works quick, it’s intuitive, and best of all, it’s incredibly fun to play. What I didn’t like: I get a frequent error that doesn’t allow me to submit a word. I have to exit the app, close it, and reopen it in order for the word to go through. To buy or not to buy: This is a free download, but it’s well worth shelling out the cash for more matches. If you like word games, Letterpress is an absolute must have. Date: October 25, 2012

Overall, Letterpress manages to make a new and addicting game with elements of some familiar titles. Its extremely stripped-down look puts focus on the game, and there's a whole lot to love there. Prepare yourself before diving into this title, because you're probably not going to put it down after picking it up. Date: October 29, 2012

(iPhone Review) Letterpress becomes one of the games that you have on your phone, playing it only went your push notifications tell you do so. However, the very integration with Game Centre makes it one of the best games to offer that functionality and it was easy enough to invite my fellow members of the AppStorm team into games without a complex process. Overall, Letterpress is a great game when it’s not experiencing stability issues. It looks nice; it plays nice. Let’s just hope that history doesn’t repeat itself and a certain notable casual gaming company decides to snatch it up, Brichter with it. Date: November 01, 2012

(iPad Review) At the end of the day, Letterpress is definitely one of the best games I have played. Almost every aspect of it is revolutionary, from the gameplay to the graphics themselves. Letterpress is without doubt a game I can rely on to returning to and having an enjoyable battle between friends. Its malleability makes each game fresh and unique, and gameplay never gets stale. However, Letterpress is not perfect. The lack of a local multiplayer or computerized mode makes it impossible to play when you are not connected to the Internet, leaving users with WiFi-only iPads without a game to play when wireless service is not available. This is one addictive game. The Letterpress iPhone game doesn’t just have great looks, but it also has brains. It’s the best of both worlds–impeccable, uncluttered design and compelling gameplay. Date: November 12, 2012

Some people take forever to respond (for this, a timer may be necessary), but when you find someone invested in winning, Letterpress shines, especially when you pay the $0.99 to unlock the full version, which displays previously used words, different themes to select and the ability to enjoy more than two games at once. That said, improvements could be made. A computer opponent would be a welcome addition for users interested in faster-paced games, while the aforementioned time mechanic would help speed things along. Of course, with the developer already talking about an update, you should view Letterpress as a work in progress. For now, it'll just have to settle for being one of the sharpest games on the App Store. Date: October 26, 2012

The bottom line. Letterpress could use additional UI tweaks (no rematch feature?), but this winning word-builder delivers a delightful and dashing turn-based experience. Date: November 01, 2012

Letterpress is a freemium game, allowing players to try a limited amount of games with a single color palette before opting for a paid upgrade. I only played a single game before shelling out the cash for this one, though. For fans of multiplayer word games, it doesn’t get much better. Date: November 05, 2012

The game is incredibly simple, but that is what I like about it, and it works and looks great. It has taken up hours of my time playing random opponents from around the internet. What would improve Letterpress is some kind of levelling system to give the game some objective, as there is really nothing to work towards as it currently stands. Date: January 27, 2013

Solid as the concept for Letterpress – Word Game is, there are some key components that are obviously missing. The lack of a “rematch” button to continue concluded games is a primary omission. Whether you’re playing with strangers or Game Center friends, a one-tap “rematch” button is essential in a game where wits are being matched. Another issue that is notable is a connection issue that isn’t too frequent, but noticeable nonetheless. It’s unclear whether this problem stems from Letterpress, Game Center or both, but it is noticeable if you play enough – and fans of Scrabble, Words with Friends and similar games are gonna wanna play. Once you get playing, Letterpress – Word Game is quite engaging. Date: November 08, 2012

Letterpress will not be much better if Apple can not better implement their Game Center services. Occasionally, Game Center will simply fail causing the game to become temporarily unusable. The addition of timed games will also help to decrease cheating opportunities. Overall, Letterpress is one of those games that I intend to keep on all my devices and continue playing. It is simply that good. Date: November 26, 2012
