I’ll get right down to it — Flight has easily become my favorite game this week, and maybe one of the best casual games that has been released so far this year. I cleared the main story in a few hours after downloading, and I am still playing the Endless mode that gets unlocked after beating the main game. I play a game like this and I can understand why some people are so eager to see Flash games ported over to the iOS platform. The game shines because of it’s simplicity, and at the same time the achievements and upgrades give it enough depth to keep you coming back for more. It looks great and sounds pretty good, and the story is just quirky enough to be worth having in there even though it doesn’t really impact the game play. The concept of electronically flying a paper airplane might not seem that engaging, but let me assure you that in actuality that couldn’t be further from the truth. Sure, it’s possible to skip ahead and buy these upgrades and coins with real money, but there’s really no need to. Instead, it’d ruin the fun of succeeding for one’s self. I’d have liked to have seen more obvious challenges, like the ones set out in Tiny Wings, but other than that, it’s tough to criticize Flight!. Flight! is a charming and enjoyable little game. It sounded like a game I’d get bored of very quickly but that hasn’t been the case. For a game that simply involves throwing a paper plane as far as you can, there is plenty to do, many upgrades to buy and challenges that are going to require a bit of effort to beat.
