In Contre Jour’s case, it certainly pays to be different as the game keeps creeping up the top of the charts on the store. It won’t surprise me one bit if it becomes the #1 game in a few days. If you can’t tell already, this game is a definite must buy! Date: August 30, 2011

While Contre Jour HD functions as a nigh-perfect puzzle game with some nifty unlock features, Chillingo was smart enough to allow the player to bounce around levels as needed. Some puzzles will drive you semi-nuts and you will die over and over again, but it's always possible to move beyond the frustrating points. This, combined with creative design, outstanding stability under iOS 4.3.5, and the promise of cool new levels to come make it worth your $3. Date: October 11, 2011

I know it gets harder and harder to want to play a puzzle game these days, since there are already so many of them available.  Still, I’d encourage you to give Contre Jour a try, especially if you’re already a puzzle game fan.  The levels can get quite challenging, but they never get dull. The atmosphere is well crafted, and Petit is oddly cute in a one-eyed, no body sort of way. Date: October 14, 2011

I found Contre Jour to be a perfect balance of “difficult enough to be challenging” and “not so difficult as to induce madness,” unlike Angry Birds where I became painfully aware of every increasingly difficult level I played. Date: October 14, 2011

It’s a neat trick as ultimately Contre Jour offers some very familiar gameplay under a cloak of quirkiness. Its unusual design keeps it fun and interesting though and for those players looking for an indie type experience, it’s a particular treat. Date: August 25, 2011

Some may look to pass on the game because at first glance it just looks like it’s taking little bits from different games and not adding anything new. The look of Limbo, the style of World of Goo, The rope mechanic of Cut the Rope or the land shifting of Bumpy Road. Yet I would argue that, in this case, all of these elements mesh together perfectly to create a game that feels so inviting that you’d be a fool to turn away. Come to the light. Date: August 27, 2011

With 60 levels offering hours of patient probing, it's another impossibly good-value offering. It's hard not to sound like a stuck record when so many quality offerings keep crawling out of the woodwork every week, but Contre Jour deserves to be loved. Date: September 05, 2011
