Ballistic SE just may be the best action game in the App Store, and definitely the best of the Geometry Wars inspired games. The game is a treat for your thumbs, eyeballs, and even mind as you’re thoroughly engaged with various enemy types and patterns. Ballistic SE is a must buy that grabs you by the seat of your pants and doesn’t let go. Also, I made it through the whole review without mentioning Ballistic mode, which the game is named after, and lets you slow down time for some targeted damage. Date: April 26, 2012

My only complaint is that the challenge modes all feel similar; there’s not a lot of variation in gameplay. This is not true of wave mode, where each wave feels different from the last, so the challenges could be improved. If you enjoy dual stick shooters, I’d highly recommend picking up Ballistic SE. It’s a great game that is more than worth the $1.99 purchase price. Date: April 28, 2012

None of these things are revolutionary; Ballistic SE doesn't rewrite the twin stick shooter or bring us a brand new perspective on the genre. Instead, it's an incredibly solid, well-balanced game that makes up in entertainment for what it skips in flash. The game's main new idea is the Ballistic meter. Once it's full, tapping a button lets you slow down time, giving you a chance to weave through particularly tricky formations and escape from seemingly hopeless corners. Unfortunately, it's not quite enough to make Ballistic SE a must buy. It's certainly fun, and there's plenty for genre buffs to get their teeth into, but there are more impressive twin-stick shooters out there that offer more intense, better balanced action.
