Apocalypse Max is right up there with games like League of Evil 2. It is one of the very best platformers out there, if not the best. The graphics are fantastic, the controls are a dream and the action is sharp and fun. Our only real problem with the game is that it’s somewhat short, and there’s not a whole lot of replay value. That being said, if you want to play one of the very best games for the platform (or any platform for that matter) than you can’t do much better than this one. Date: September 25, 2012

At the time the app was reviewed, pricing was not set in stone yet. However, given the pretty decent graphics and entertaining game play, even if the app was not offered for free, it would still be worth getting. It is an app that would appeal to younger and older users alike, and people of backgrounds as well. It is a great, fun app that would definitely help keep you preoccupied for hours on end. That said, two things bug us, starting with the tiny jump button. An option to enlarge it would be much appreciated. We also have trouble wrapping our heads around Max's health. Just can't determine how much is left, since he can absorb damage with no medkits. These, however, are small issues compared to the overwhelming number of positives. Apocalypse Max doesn't break new ground in the 2D platform/shooting genre, but its high-level of polish puts it right up there with the best iOS has to offer. You can't call yourself a zombie fan without downloading this entertaining game. Date: September 14, 2012

Playing Apocalypse Max feels like a I’m playing a true update to the bullet-filled platformers of yore on Nintendo and Sega consoles. For any platforming fans who want some Contra-esque action on their iOS device, Max is a must buy – and even for those who aren’t familiar with those old titles, Max is an high quality action title for any iPhone or iPad user looking for some run and gun gameplay. Apocalypse Max: Better Dead Than Undead is a challenging game, but Wandake has done a great job of making the range of difficulty bearable which made me want to dig back into the game and keep going. Another worthy note is the amazingly detailed graphics that appear in this game — all hand drawn and very well done. This game played really great on my iPhone 4S, but I have yet to try it out on my iPad 3rd generation. The only small issue I have with the game is that there are only 20 levels. Still, the control issues mentioned above, while frustrating, don't detract greatly from the rest of the game. Apocalypse Max is still a great hybrid of platforming and shoot-em-up elements. Sure, zombie themes may have become tiring, but a great game will excel regardless of superficial thematics. In that vein, action fans looking for something new should simply check out Apocalypse Max. Date: September 26, 2012

Apocalypse Max is not the action shooter I had hoped for, and only the presentation really shines. Where it matters most the game is a bit shallow, and disappointing. The level design is too simple, and the enemies are too easy to avoid and kill. Overall it feels like if you took the first level out of a Metal Slug game, and then stretched it out as a standalone title. Apocalypse Max is still a cool shooter for those looking to just run about slashing zombies for a couple of hours. Date: September 14, 2012

Apocalypse Max has a huge potential to be a terrific iOS game, but until the controls are fixed, I just can’t recommend it. That said, if they are fixed in the first update, this immediately becomes a must-own title for any zombie fan or shoot-em-up fan. Date: September 14, 2012
